Thanks to all for the wonderful and overwhelming response to my snowmobile question yesterday. I have another one: Are there any municipalities that do not offer curbside or some other town trash removal.....people are obligated to find their own way to dispose of their trash? Many thanks

Responses: Good Morning from the Town of Glenburn Our Town does offer curbside pickup. (Carline Dube, Glenburn)

Lamoine has a transfer station. Folks can either bring it there themselves or they can hire a contractor to do so. (Stu Marckoon, Lamoine)

Hi all...SoPo does curbside pick up with curbside recyling also.  (both weekly) (Sue Borelli, South Portland)

The Monmouth and Wales transfer station is open 4 days a week. Residents and businesses need to transport. (Curt Lunt, Monmouth)

Town of Stoneham shares a transfer station (fancy name of the dump) with Waterford and Albany Twp. Everyone has to come and drop of their garbage and recycled materials. (Town of Stoneham)

The Town of Clinton (pop. 3,440) owns and operates a Solid Waste Facility (even fancier name for dump). It accepts waste (MSW, C&D, Recycling, Hazardous and Universal Waste) from residents and businesses from both Towns of Clinton and Benton. Benton contracts with Clinton to use our facility.

Residents have to drop off waste at our facility or cotract with a private commercial hauler, their is no municipally managed curbside trash/ recycling program, like living in the big city! (Aaron Chrostowsky, Clinton)

The Town of Marshfield is a member of the Machias Bay Area Transfer Station (which includes Machias, Whitneyville, Roque Bluffs, and Twnshps 24, 29, 30, and 31.) All residents are responsible for their own trash removal. Our transfer station deals with MSW, will burn brush, and handles a large variety of recyclables and white goods. Some Marshfield residents opt to rent a dumpster from a local contractor, which picks it up weekly or monthly. (Alexandra Mickelinc, Marshfield)

In Milbridge we purchased a trash truck and hired two part-time men to pickup trash curbside, and we have two twenty yard rolloff containers for recycling. We have reduced our trash and increased our recycling by having control over what gets picked up. We have a population of 1,300 and our total soild waste budget is $104,750. (Lewis Pinkham, Milbridge)

Belfast is the same as Lamoine. (Rickie LeSan, Belfast)
